Weekend Musical Diversion: Cy Curnin

November 14, 2009

If you’re wondering who Cy Curnin is, he’s the lead singer from the 80’s rock band The Fixx.  Back in the day, The Fixx was the first band that I saw in concert as they rocked the acoustically-challenged Aragon Ballroom. The Fixx have always been one of my favorite bands and I’ve always felt they were very underrated. Cy currently has a solo album out and his new video caught my attention for its colorful visuals and thought-provoking lyrics.  Oh, and he has a thing about his hands…

How about you…what was the first concert you ever went to?

Hi Tim,
Thanks for pointing us to this video. I agree, the visuals are striking! Yeah, and I totally remember the Fixx from back in the day…

The first concert I went to? Well, I’m not exactly sure of the first, I’m sure it was a country band at our local County Fair, though. I think it was Lee Greenwood. (?)

One of my favorite concerts was an acoustic performance in Minnesota in a small venue – a 16 year old kid – and he was just amazing! He later became more well known. I still love his music; his name is Johnny Lang.

Thanks for another great musical diversion, Tim!

Hi Lori: Sounds cool that you saw you’re first concert at the Fair. I have a couple great memories of spending time at the Fair when I was a kid. Also good to hear about Johnny Lang…I’m a fan of his. He’s an “old pro” today and he’s probably just around 30 these days. Lori, thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the video and for sharing your memories of seeing The Fixx. My first concert…hmmm…let me go back in my memory banks…I believe it was Menudo and I was in junior high. Ricky Martin had just joined and he was like my height. Kind of funny to see how he changed and actually went on to have a long term career.

Hope all is awesome and that you are having a fun weekend!

Very nice, I wasn’t familiar with Cy Curnin, but I like the mellow sound. I’m not much of a concert goer, most of mine have been outdoor concerts tied to other events. The one I do remember was going to see Duran Duran long after their height of popularity. They are my wife’s all-time favorite band, and we saw them at House of Blues which was nice as it’s a smaller more personal venue.

Hi Nadia: Cool…Menudo, I know they were incredibly popular back in the day so I bet that was a special experience for you. Thanks for sharing that here and I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Eric: I remember when Duran Duran were popular and remember all my classmates going to see them. I’ve heard good things about their live shows and I bet they were cool to see. If you’re into Duran Duran, you might like some Fixx tunes…they were both from Britain and became popular at the same time. They (the Fixx) also seemed to have some pretty deep lyrics for a pop band. Anyhow, thanks for sharing your experience here and I hope the rest of your weekend rocks!
