Weekend Musical Diversion: Ray Charles

December 19, 2009

In December, I do enjoy holiday music…even better to me is Christmas blues music.  One of my favorite Christmas blues songs is “Merry Christmas Baby,” which was made famous by the late bluesman Charles Brown.  This version, performed by Ray Charles, is pretty enjoyable as well…

How about you, do you have any favorite Christmas songs?

Have a great weekend!

Hi Tim,

Ray Charles is so awesome. I love the clip.

My favorite Christmas songs are “Do They Know It’s Christmas Time”, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, “All I Want for Christmas is You”, and some Elvis Presley songs which are more blues like than Christmas like which is cool.

In case I do not talk to you before the 24th, have an awesome Christmas!

Hi Nadia: I know what you mean about Ray Charles. After I posted this, I found another great Christmas song that he performed and I was blown away again. You mentioned some great holiday tunes and, believe it or not, I forgot about the Elvis ones. Thanks for stopping by and commenting…and have a great Christmas, as well!

Hey Tim,
Ray Charles is an angel. He just melts me when I hear him sing – thanks for the vid!

Christmas songs? Well, I have to admit that Christmas music/songs have never been high on my list – but one song that tends to be played a lot around the holidays, which always breaks my ‘holiday spell,’ is John Lennon’s Imagine.

And this might sound shallow, but there’s a recent episode of Glee called ‘Hairography’ that has scene where the show choir performs Imagine with a neighboring school’s choir that moved me beyond words. (I don’t have a TV, but love to download episodes of Glee and Dexter from iTunes!) 😉

Thanks, Tim.

Hi Lori: Ray Charles is the dude…so soulful and the perfect person to sing a holiday tune. Wow, I’ve never thought of Imagine as a holiday tune, but I can see why you would include this. I have not seen Glee, but I can imagine the version you described very vividly…it sounds very cool. Thanks for stopping by and sharing!
