Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

December 23, 2009

For many Chicagoans (myself included), the Christkindlmarket has been an annual holiday tradition. Located in Daley Plaza next to the Picasso, it is a place to buy handcrafted ornaments, eat delicious German food (chased by good beer or traditional German spiced wine), and hang out with friends. My favorite moment here was visiting this market during a blizzard after work about four years ago. Words cannot describe how surreal and peaceful those moments were. I felt relaxed about my trip home since the subway station is located on Dearborn Street and the trains were running smoothly that evening.

No matter which holiday you celebrate this time of year, I wish you and your family the best. Have a great holiday and I hope all of your travels are safe!

Hi Lance: Thanks for your good wishes and for your support here, it is deeply appreciated. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and holiday season!

Hi Nadia: I know what you mean about Chicago…I could go on a rant about the things going on in Chicago that I don’t like (the privatization of parking is one BIG thing). But visiting the kristkindlmarket in the last few days reminds me how fortunate I am to live here. For a big city, we’re actually pretty friendly (I hear). Thank you for your good wishes and I feel blessed to have gotten to know you this year. I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and great holidays!

Hi Tim! Great photos, neighbor! I’m out in the suburbs but love coming downtown Chi – well, did it more when parking was affordable, haha! That market is awesome – didn’t know about that! You can’t beat Chi-town for food and the city lights! Hope your Xmas was jolly!

Hi Suzen: Yep, I’ve always loved going downtown since I was a kid. These days I wouldn’t dream of driving down there unless I had to pick up friends or family from the train station. I would highly recommend the market for next year and its only a few blocks from Macy’s (the old Marshall Field’s) so I could see those two stops as part of a family’s holiday tradition. Thank you for stopping by!
