Peoplescape Part 3: The Presentation

January 22, 2011

About a year ago, I had the good fortune to witness an amazing Pecha Kucha presentation from Maria Scileppi about her Peoplescape project.  I later featured Maria and interviewed her about her life-changing project (check out Peoplescape pt. 1 and Peoplescape pt. 2).  Now, a year later, I became aware that her presentation was captured on video.

I realize this video might be a little long, but I really believe it’s worthy of your attention. One thing I was impressed with when I talked to Maria was the amount of preparation and rehearsal that went into it – approximately 60 hours.

As someone who gives presentations through my Toastmasters group – and enjoys the spirit and energy of improvisation, I often wrestle with how much time I need to prepare a speech. I think you’ll see here how Maria’s preparation enables her to tell a better story and have a greater impact on her audience. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Tim,
I loved this when you shared about Maria earlier, and I really loved watching this video today! I believe very much, that it’s our stories that bring our speaking to life. And Maria shines at this, as she really touches upon that – her personal story – told with eloquence and fun.

And – very awesome – your work in Toastmasters!! I’ve been a member in the past, and found it so beneficial!

Hi Lance: Thanks for watching the video…while the quality may not be the best (I think part of the screen is cut off), hopefully the impact is still there. Her story still has a big impact on me and is a great example of how friendships don’t always just happen…they sometimes need a little work. I agree, her sense of eloquence and fun really shine in this video. Good to hear you’ve been a Toastmasters member, too…I’ve learned so much and met so many great people since I’ve become a member. Take care and have a great weekend!

Hi Tim,
I had the good fortune to have read your Peoplescape journey from the beginning (part 1 & 2) so it’s my pleasure to see this video, too. It’s a great post script.

I find this to be inspiring. I love how the journey has been spread to others, too. Wow, that’s amazing those two are getting married.

In a “former life” I was in Toastmasters, too. I really loved pubic speaking. Keep it up, Tim, I want to watch you in a TED lecture. :)
Enjoy…

Hi Sis: I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found it inspiring. Actually, it reminds me a little bit of all of the love tasks you completed last year. I think there are so many of us that can identify with what Maria was going through…moving to another city and feeling a lack of close friendships in our lives. But her project is a great example how reaching out a little bit can make a big difference. It’s so cool that you were in Toastmasters, too- such a great organization. I’ll be working toward that TED talk, but man I’ve got some work to do 😉 Take care and have a great week!
